Help for a 'Newbie'

Hi everyone.

As a 'newbie' to your forum I would just like to say Hi! and begin by asking for some advice.

Not sure whether I have chosen the correct section of the forum to post this message, but hope someone reading this can help.

I am in the process of designing a new website and would like to incorporate a chart, or table on the home page, clearly showing the appointment slots that I have available.
The table or chart must be easy and quick to update.

Take a look at these sites. Scroll down their pages a bit and you'll see the sort of thing I mean. A table with different coloured blocks representing appointments vacant/taken.

I did sneak a look at the source code for these, which just looks like an html table.
But how would this table be easily updated without having to mess around in that mass of source code each time?

Does anyone know whether there are any javascripts or software programs readily available that will achieve something like this?
If so, where would I look and what should I look for?
Programs must be easy to set-up, understand & update.

Someone has already mentioned to me that this type of thing can possibly be achieved using PHP and MySQL, but this means very little to me. What are these terms and how would I use them to easily create the desired effect. Please keep in-mind that I am a beginner to this and, as such, probably won't understand many of the things that you may consider extremely simple!

The HTML table is probably created by some code from entries stored in a text fire or sql database.

It doesn't look like a very difficult job for someone who has even a little experience. As someone who has no experience, you will have to have the person who builds this for you install the database or set up the web server to be able to deal with the scripting language they use and the database they want. Still, not that big of a deal.

The page that gets called will probably be renamed to something with a different extension than html or htm. Most likely something like php phtml asp etc. I suppose that if someone were a masochist they'd do it in javascript. This script will "generate" the html page that you see when you view source. You never see the source code of the back end program.

Send me a Private Message on this forum and I'll be happy to discuss possibilities with you.
