Speed up delivery of mp3 + mov files ...

Hi ... am wondering if there's an existing scrip that will help speed delivery of mov and mp3 files. The mov files are relatively small, less than 50k. The mp3 files are radio airchecks, with the music cut out or of talk shows, and average about 60k. I don't have many, 25 in total, and don't expect to ever exceed 50.

Loading the mov and mp3 files takes forever. I'm sure many interested viewers or listeners leave, frustrated. I'd like to provide more efficient service to my site visitors.

Someone said some porno sites, such as redtube.com, use a program to speed up delivery. If I could deliver my few, small files as quickly as redtuble.com, I'd be ecstatic. Is there an existing program to help me?

Thanks in advance.

50k and 60k? And you need to speed up delivery?
Those should be lightening fast at that file size. What are you using to play the files?

Generally the other media delivery sites (including porno sites) use a combination of flash and/or buffering to start delivery in advance so that downloading can continue in the background. Even the most common embedded media players like Windows Media Player support buffering.

Maybe something else is slowing it down? Internet speeds? Slow server?

Hi ... thanks for response. Using QuickTime for both mov and mp3. WMP is also slow, which I guess suggests a different problem, but not as slow as QT. Maybe what I don't know is how to embed a player. I upload files, visitor clicks on link to mov or mp3. How might I improve this process? Thanks.

Hi ... click here for sample of excessively slow loading for mov. For this mov, visitor clicks near bottom left of this page. Thanks.

Yeah, that's not 50-60k, that's a 23MB mov file. I'd expect that to load slow. I don't think quicktime buffers either. What happens is people have to download the full 23 meg file before it'll start to play.

You could either convert to wmv and use windows media player to buffer, or convert to flv and find a flv player that does buffering/preloading too.

Hi ... thanks for your ideas. I think I made the wrong mov available, but your recommendation makes sense. I did try Windows Media Player, but it, too, was slow. I was hoping to find a db type script, but I guess not.

Presumably, I put the flv player on my site and convert the mov and mp3s to flv and all happens automatically from there.

Thanks so much.
