Posting Here Too... NEED HELP!

i am new to this forum and new to asking for help like this regarding emails. but, a few days ago i got an email that i desperately am trying to trace. it is a gmail to gmail email and when i look at 'show original' to view the full header it does not look like a normal header. i have copied and pasted the entire thing into an 'ip address locater/tracer' and it says it is an 'unknown ip'

I have pasted the header below, minus the personal info: This is the entire header, even after looking at full view. DID THIS PERSON INTENTIONALLY BLOCK THEIR IP? OR USE A PUBLIC SERVICE TO DO SO? I am so confused........ Can someone PLEASE HELP???

hey, I was able to retrieve a snippet of the log from google (don't ask) for the date and time stamp. To answer your most direct questions, did they deliberately mask their ip? no. Did they use a public service? no.

Once I got the snippet I was able to work up a good trace. Public traceroutes do not work except in a general scope. If information is old (in some cases by even minutes), then the trace can't be resolved to the originating ip.

I have their exact location (rather where the email was sent from). The information retrieved showed a residential building so they aren't using a public service like a cafe or something. I CANNOT and WILL NOT give you any information that points to that person's location so don't ask.

I can however tell you that the person is a road runner customer here in the US. The reason your trace failed was because the rr information showed their account is not a static IP. the IP changes everytime their connection is reset so the ip you got was non-existent.

May I ask why you're trying to trace the source?
