Has anyone tried OxyClassifieds (carscripts) classified ad solution?

It used to be OxyClassifieds but now it's OxyClassifieds

Anyhow, I'm looking for a nice auto classified ad solution and this one appears to have all the features I seek. I am wondering however if anyone is currently using this or has used it in the past and what your thoughts and opinions are on the software?

Any input is greatly appreciated?

Hi,

I do not use it. But I am looking for a turnkey classified ad software, and it seems to be a good value for money, but I noticed some bugs in their live demo. The live demo lets you browse both front end and administrator sections to see what settings are availables.

Yesterday, I sent the message below to the support team, I may share their answer with you :

Hello,
I am not using oxyclassifieds, but actually searching for a turnkey classified ads software.
I looked into your demo, both front and backend and noticed a small but frustrating deffect : the browser "back" button does not allow to go back to the previous page, and there is no "back to search results" link in the ads details. So to view another classified I need to do the entire search process again.
Also, the drop down list from the "contact" option in the navigation bar does not show up correctly.
Are these bugs corrected since your demo is online ?

Since I started my search for a classified ads software, yours is among the best value for money offers, but to my opinion it misses 2 important SEO and Pagerank optimisation features :

- the ability to set a "user url" field which would be automatically checked for reciprocal links on the user's website, with automatic reminder email, and even urls deletion if users fail to backlink to the oxyclassifieds site. I found "reciprocal-links-manager-php-script-1.1" on script.wareseeker.com but don't know how this could be implemented within your software.

- as url rewrite can be enabled, there should be an <alt> description for each picture. With the choice of ad title, or category or sub category options for add setting, so every picture would have an alternate description like "real estate", "house San Diego", "classic car" or "triumph TR3". On the site (classicsportscars.eu) i am currently running, most of my visitors come from Google Images, and I think this <alt> feature is "must have" for a classifieds website. Type "Triumph TR3" in Google so you'll have the perfect example of what i am meaning.

Do you plan to add this feature on your next release ? That would certainly make me choose your solution among others.
Best regards.

Bastien

Thank you very much for your response. Let me know if they get back to you and what they have to say about the issues you pointed out to them in your email. All of those features are features I would like to see, especially having the back button work, that's crucial if you ask me!

From all of the classified ad software I've looked at however their product seems to be a very good solution and a very good value.

Hi,

I got the reply from oxyclassifieds support team :

Quote:
About back to search results, our team will implement this change today and we will notice you when ready.

The drop down problem must be a cross browser problem, could you tell me what browser you use when you see this bug? We will correct this as soon as we figure it out.

We can add an Alt field for each category and allow the administrator to edit it with the category details. As for listing pictures, this can be added as an image description, but since the users will be the ones that will be adding these comments, I'm not sure they will always fill that field. Alternatively the ad title could be used for Alt field. Could you tell me which would work better for you? I will send this request as well to development team and probably will be ready on Monday.

Your suggestion with reciprocal links is interesting. This can be implemented as a separate module for our script, but I'm not sure this addition can be scheduled to be completed very soon. Alternatively you can talk to the customization team and we can implement it for you as a customization, with an extra fee.

Let me know if you have more questions.
I noticed they already fixed the browser back button issue, as they did not notice an issue with the contact drop down menu, I believe this could be due to my browser (IE6) and will try with another browser.

An alt description field can be set for posted pictures. Regarding reciprocal linking they are open to the suggestion and their customiation team could develop it on demand for a supplement.

Rgds

Thanks for that info! That's really helpful.

Something else I think would be cool would be if they implemented the ability for certain users to be designated as an 'auto dealership' and they would have their own little page that showed all of their listings or inventory.

Hi,

Mini site management for a specific users category is more likely to be a specific module rather than a simple add on. I did not ask, as it is not in my wish list and I doesn't feel the need of.
Therefore, you can contact their customization team for a quote, they are very reactive.
