Regular Expression Problem

I have a problem.. I am trying to extract data from a string that is formatted like..

"vars{var1{data1},var2{data2},var3{var3_1{data3_1} ,var3_2{data3_2}}"

How do i extract a certain var, for example var3 ?

I have something like "var3{(.*)}" but obviously problems are caused with the curly braces.

I want the result to have a match $1 of everything between its braces, so var3 would have "var3_1{data3_1},var3_2{data3_2}"

Thanks for the help
