I'm currently designing a wordpress theme but I need to figure out how to define the home page design and then the inner pages. I know Joomla has a main template then the subpage templates. In wordpress how do you do this? Any help would be appreciated.

is all you need really. to be honest ive never gone that deep into it. since there are hundrends of thousands of themes i do the same thing everytime-find something similar to what i want to achieve and modify it....

Ummmm, I think adding a menu-bar should help you to create inner pages for it. I found the following for you.
