Question Enable PEAR for PHP with Plesk panel (GoDaddy virtual dedicated)

Hey,

I have a virtual dedicated server with GoDaddy. They say PEAR is part of the Fedora Core 7 vded server package, but it isn't actually enabled. Actually, looking at PHPINFO, the PHP is built "--without-pear" which is a little discouraging.

However, I was told by support that it actually is present, and I just need to enable it. They didn't give instructions so I had to find it online. Basically, I used this guide (and a little information from other pages since I'm a SSH newbie):

http://mattiasgeniar.be/2008/08/20/h...ages-in-plesk/

It still doesn't work. This is the error I get now when trying to use the mail function (I replaced the domain with mydomain.com for privacy):

Quote:
PHP Fatal error: require_once() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required 'Mail.php' (include_path='/var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/:/usr/share/pear/') in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/smtp.php on line 2
Prior to editing vhost.conf, the error message was similar, but had the original include path:

Quote:
PHP Fatal error: require_once() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required 'Mail.php' (include_path='.:.:') in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/smtp.php on line 2
Is it possible for the include path for pear to be something different than this one? Did I set it up wrong somehow else?

One side question:

Also, I saw in someone's control panel at another hosting company that the cPanel had installation options for PEAR modules. Basically, you can use the panel to enable them instead of having to SSH everything. Does anyone have a GoDaddy server on cPanel who can confirm that theirs have this option as well? How about the GoDaddy simple control panel as well?

I want to stick with GoDaddy if at all possible, because I love their hosting quality for the price, but I desperately need PEAR mail to work so that I can use SMTP on-site.

Thank you all for any advice or information you might have. It's greatly appreciated.
