how to fix this problem causing cpu exceeded error?

Now I'm looking at our last cpu_exceeded_logs file and there is long list point to "/ramdisk/bin/php5" which I don't know much about it or don't know how to deal with that. would you please tell what exactly it means and what should I do to avoid it?

Example of my last cpu_exceeded_logs file:

Quote:
Mon Jul 6 00:34:50 2009: used 0.77 seconds of cpu time for /ramdisk/bin/php5
Mon Jul 6 00:34:50 2009: used 0.50 seconds of cpu time for /ramdisk/bin/php5
Mon Jul 6 00:34:50 2009: used 0.80 seconds of cpu time for /ramdisk/bin/php5
Mon Jul 6 00:34:50 2009: used 0.55 seconds of cpu time for /ramdisk/bin/php5
I can't find the cause of problem when look at /ramdisk/bin/php5. What should I do?

Thanks in advance.

Windows or Linux?

RAM disk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - I'm guessing your using a RAM disk for php processing (probably makes it faster), but the problem would probably be more with the script that it is running and not php so much.

Have you been having issues with the server or something?

It's on Linux based server and we use WordPress for publishing our posts. I've tested both FastCGI and normal PHP setting but almost same log have been produced.

I also use Optimize DB plug-in for WordPress and do optimization regularly. last time when I was thinking about it I suspected to my current WP theme in which it uses phpThumb to make thumbnails on rum time. then I did some tweaking and disable cropping and run time thumbnail maker but problem still resists!

on the other side some technical staff told me that's because of shared hosting environment and it's time to migrate to VPS or better. currently we have almost 20 to 50 concurrent visitors per minute and average of 7500 daily hits. what do you think? is that so?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this you, but this user has a similiar problem... Almost similar numbers.

I don't think you'll be able to completely remove these log entries. Generally, it sounds like it keeps track of all the extra cpu time taken to run php scripts, and if your doing something excessive, it will auto suspend your site for a few minutes to keep load low. This is extremely common on shared hosting. And depending on how many other sites share the same server, there might not be much you can do.

You mentioned you were using the phpthumb plugin for Wordpress, if you deactive this plugin, are the logs still generated? Maybe there might be a newer version of that plugin? Any other plugins installed?

The numbers you posted aren't outrageous. On a normal server by itself, those would be considered low. But on a shared server, they will throttle your site down to keep resources for everyone so unless it's negatively affecting your site, you can probably ignore.

Or switch hosts.
