osdate sucks you in to buy templates and add ons for a goliath program that just does not work. It will look like it works but believe me IT DOES NOT. It is gonna waste unbelievable amounts of your time especially if you are a code guru, because the code is layer upon layer of utter garbage that looks like it might work.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Hardly worth the effort unless you are into programming to modify this script inside and out. There are people using it, but the quality confirms the old saying "you get what you pay for" ... the creator's efforts are appreciated just the same. The help forum, though it currently contains some helpful info collected from the past, is next to useless since no responses have ever come my way.

One of the main reasons why (besides being free) osdate rocks is that it comes with a profile generator plugin. When you get started, how are you going to get people to join? How will you make the site look active? Profiles, of course. It will take you forever to manually create them by hand. It's useful until you get more members, and don't have a need for it. This is only one of the many reasons that you should give osdate a shot. Forum members also offer great support.

When you upload pics for a new approved profile it says how many pics you uploaded (but showing none because none is yet approved). This is bogus because the last user sees that the profile has n pictures but can’t see any. Even after approval there are some issues. Let’s say if you approve al pics all seems fine but if you reject pics you will end up with the pics showing the default no picture thumbnail. This is undesirable because when you search only for profile with pictures you get errors

I have been a part of the osDate community since the release of v1, also as a [active] moderator, and osDate is sub par. I have installed it dozens of times and made modifications so I am no novice. Bugs, unnecessary variables, coding of no use, improper use of constants/global variables, unnecessary multiple nested tables in templates, unused styles, "doors" to nowhere, incorrectly coded cache system, optimization and security are just some of the issues that make this script unworthy.
