The installation took a total of about 10 minutes to finish, with really the only necessary knowledge needed is how to create an empty MySQL database and assign a user to it. After browsing through the files once the install was complete, it's noticeable how simple everything is to manage, and even edit to maintain your own content. Great work.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

What a great concept. Being able to combine a secure area with phpBB makes maintainance so much simpler. A god send to admins. Congratulations & please keep up the good work.

It's really great and automatic. I'm having a few difficulties regarding protecting flash, but I expect to solve that in the forum before implementing this code as a definitive part of the project.

Installation went smoothly, but as soon as I tried to access the Amin Area I ran into a wall. When I enter my username and password, the script seems to overwrite my password with somethin long and incorrect causing my Login to fail. Disappointing, I can't even test it to see if it works!

I've spent 2 days just trying to install this. My providers' server runs apache and refuses to accept any file or folder names that include a space or an @ symbol. According to my provider these are not considered as standard filenames. Since the AMA files include such type of filenames, I see no possible way of ftp'ing the installation files/folders to the server. I have tried (several times) to use the autoinstaller and also to do it manually. In all cases it bombs because of the name issue. I can't even use the developers' forums to post a plea for help unless I pay for membership (why would you pay for something that don't install?). I have to resort to signing up here and posting this review. I can't give a thorough genuine review because I can't install the damn thing to see what its virtues and/or shortcoming are! It'a a pity because the thing shows such promise (on the surface). However if I can't even install it and I can't get help without paying for it, then I'm afraid I'll be looking elsewhere for something that just WORKS right out of the box (so to speak). So much for the promise of 'not needing to be a tech'. I AM a tech (sysop) and this whole scenario SUCKS!!!
I am sorry it did not work for you. There has never been an issue with "Admin login" - I can only assume incorrect username/password was used. "the script seems to overwrite my password with somethin long" That is correct. phpAMA hashes passwords before sending them across the Internet, this makes it far more secure and is probably the reason it is still secure after being openly available for over 5 years.
Indeed! The "@" symbol is used for PRIVATE content. phpAMA creates folders using the members email address, and there is an example folder in: /members/content/ which is: amember@their-address-.com That can be deleted. Only if PRIVATE content is required would you need a system to support the "@" symbol. Anyhow, I have added this to the list for change next upgrade. MANY THANKS for you review/response. Hey people! Keep them coming I am all ears.... (regarding the forum - I open the forum to none members and within days it is spammed to hell so I only allow registered members the ability to post, sorry. Blame that spammers not me.)
