• Ridiculously difficult to work with, and broken

  First off, the install is not straight forward, and does not come up by default. There are two steps to the install process, and only one is covered in the documentation. One does not lead to the other. The thing that really bothers me about this thing is the way it's laid out. Every single little thing that can go on a page is in the database under languages; and there's no interface provided to work with language packs. So II have to dig through often duplicate language entries in the database to do simple things like change a piece of text that says, "Let your keyboard do the walking" on every page. What the hell? Speaking of languages and templates, this is the worst implementation of Smarty that I've ever seen. It's open to http permissions exploits, that will get you delisted from google. I'm sure this has happened. This script bills itself as a business directory, but it's not, it's a classified ad system. A user can submit as many "business listings" as he wants without error. Or theoretically, it looks like it was designed for that. Hard to tell because your listings fall off the face of the earth after they're submitted. Do not buy this script, do not use this script. It is a very involved waste of time.

All steps are clearly laid out in the installation documentation. There is an easy to use, and intuitive language administration area, no need to access the database directly. Security exploits are taken very seriously with patches made available to plug up any holes when found. It certainly is a business directory and does not remotely resemble a classified ad script. The reviewer is correct, the script has been designed so that a member can list multiple businesses they own, not sure how they see this flexibility as a negative. The administrator can set up the script to auto approve submissions or require admin approval before listing in the directory, perhaps the listings that fell off the face of the earth where actually waiting for approval, hard to tell, however there is a support forum available where any problems can be reported.

  I tried bunches of scripts and there is nothing like this one. I love it for these .. Pros: 1) powerful 2) easily localize content in many languages. 3) Very active forum and the develop seems to have answered to every question out there. 4) I find it very fast also. 5) FREE and this, it's unreal! You have to try it.

  I do not write a lot of reviews but this download (of course, the best ones are free, as with this one) is one of the best I have used. The SMARTY TEMPLATE framework is written with language localization. It is customizable but you should do a few test installations to get the customization options locked down before you go live. If there is one 'con' to the software app it is hard to customize. This .TPL driven framework makes standard HTML editors like DreamWeaver useless. A great app!

  We have previously used a competitive commercial Directory Script and were very impressed with the product that Dave has built. We have had Dave customize the application for us and it is not only faster and more robust, but it is much easier dealing with Dave than the commercial system. And very few bugs, although we were the first commercial site using the code. We are so impressed with the system that we are in the process of installing 50+ copies of the system.
