This just worked, right out of the box. Excellent work. Only thing is that the URL on this site is invalid - do a search for the product on Google and it'll point to sourceforge.net for the latest copy.

PHPFM is an open source file manager written in PHP. It is easy to set up for a beginner, but still easy to customize for the more experienced user. The built-in login system makes sure that only people with the right username and password gains access to PHPFM, however, you can also choose to disable the login system and use PHPFM for public access. It can currently: create, rename and delete folders; create, upload, rename, download and delete files; edit text files; view image files; sort files by name, size, permissions and last modification date both ascending and descending; communicate in more languages.

PHPFM is by far the easiest to use yet most advanced file manager out there. I easily installed it on my site and began customizing the script. I found a post on the PHPFM forum where a multi-user version was hosted and it made PHPFM even better! I wrote some quick php scripts that allowed users to create accounts on their own and even threw in some cookies so my site would remember users. Great customizable free script!

Thank God for these people. Several attempts at various scripts with crap instructions and bad support then out of the blue comes this one. These are the good guys. If you want a fast install with a great effective file manager then don't even bother looking elsewhere. This is the one. Thank you whoever you are. I will dedicate a tree to you!!!!

I have tried other filemanager systems earlier, but they just generated errors after installing. Probably because I am new at php, but still they gave me errors. This one was extremely simple to install and configure, and more powerful then any of the other filemanagers I have tried. I recommend this filemanager to everyone. When I first installed an Apache Server on my computer, I needed something to allow users to manage files and for me to have access to my computer remotely. One of the first ones I tried was PHPFM and it worked instantly! It was very configurable and especially easy to use. I did try several others, but couldn't get them to work properly if at all. Maybe after playing with them awhile I would have, but why bother when this one worked from the start and had everything I needed and more. Never had a problem with PHPFM. Lot of features like hiding certain files/folders, by either their extensions or even a word in the name. Easy to read Layout and Icons, Download/Upload files,delete,... basically everything you would like to do is there. Works great with Apache, you can even turn off the password protection if you feel your Apache handles it appropriately or use the added protection of PHPFM. I would recommend this program highly to anyone wanting a File Manager on their server.
