If you have all the components as defined in the requirements section, the core script can literally be setup in minutes! In terms of an out of the box package, this is the best so far. I have tried all of them using Mandrake, Apache with PHP & Perl, mySQL and ADO. On the down side, the support website is now split into numerous sites for some reason so finding modules & downloads can be tedious.

When I am new to CMS, I used to think of different features to be all together and to have developed an open source CMS with better modularity. After seeing PostNuke, I felt it already exists, and I am happy to use it now. A readmade option to those new and really customisable to advanced webmasters. It has different modules that include forums, helpdesk, backup, downloads, amazon, postwrap etc different varieties of modules. The postwrap module helps wrap shopping carts and other into postnuke

Great portal/cms system. I have tried all the other "popular ones" and none of them come close to PostNuke. This is the most stable version of the Nukes ever!

...in just a year since branching out of PHP-Nuke to have rewritten and tidied up the whole core of the system is an amazing feat. Don't be fooled by its 'Alpha' designation. It does everything well, and the designation has more to do with the 'stage' it is towards its major project milestones than a reflection of the software quality, which has been consistent and production quality at each milestone in the project. Lots of applications - if you can think of a need for dynamic data and web sites I'll bet you can use PostNuke to fulfill them.

I haven't used the other nukes, but PostNuke is pretty great. I look forward to the documentation catching up with the code, but there is a large community in any case.

At the time of writing (Feb 2002) PostNuke is still Alpha. In spite of this it is already leagues ahead of other Weblogs/CMS and is constantly moving ahead in leaps and bounds. Each update is well thought out and advances the software in a really intelligent way. There are over (at present) 90 developers working on this baby who are incredibly experienced and know what they are doing. What really makes this shine ahead of the others is that they have a plan and goals to acheive and some very good project management which means they are progressively acheiving what they set out to do. With many promising open source projects the promise is there and unfortunately the management and organisation of the project lets it fall apart. This is not the case with this lot, they are really impressive at making what they claim they are going to do a reality. Go and have a look at them, download etc and be impressed.

I can't even begin to explain how easy PostNuke is to use... AND... it works "out of the box". I have no prior knowledge of any programming or scripting languages, but I still was able to install, and make a few customizations to the postNuke code to fit the needs of my website! In addition, the PostNuke team SUPPORTS their project (which is extremely important - especially for a *dummy* like me). I was able to get answers to all of my questions (installation, customization, etc.) in their forums, and a couple of my feature enhacements/suggestions were even implemented in a following release of the package. I definitely recommend PostNuke!

I've tried Drupal, phpWebsite, and Postnuke within the past few months, and considered many others. Some require that obscure or finicky support programs be installed on the server - most community web hosts don't have them available. Not everyone runs their own web server! Although the program is still in alpha, the documentation is coming along nicely. I have to hope, however, that they improve the installation documentation for both new installs and upgrades. That is, put complete 'for dummies' upgrade instructions along with every release...and make it release specific! Not everyone is comfortable with generic instructions, especially those written for PHP or database experts. Some of the current CMS systems just don't have a large, active, user/developer base to provide help to end users. Postnuke is NOT in this category. Many times, if I have a question about something, I can just browse the support forums and the answer is there already. Feature wise, Postnuke has most everything you'd need to set up a highly interactive, interesting, modern, and useful web site. Isn't that what a CMS should do?

As a professional webmaster and designer I have yet to find anything that comes close to the power, flexibility, options, and ease of set up found in Post Nuke. I have tried Mambo Server, eZ publish, and of course PHP Nuke. I'm very impressed with how far the project has evolved from PHP Nuke in such a short period of time. As a developer I feel confident using Post Nuke for rapid commercial development. My clients love how Post Nuke handles. TEP (The Exchange Project), a powerful shopping cart application, has recently been added Post Nuke's module options making Post Nuke the most powerful free ecommerce solution out there in my opinion. Great job!

In fact, at current state, PostNuke still has the weakness of being a bit of a weblog system. I personally don't like these systems because they are mostly rather chaotic. PostNuke has a roadmap though, to develop a real Content Management System with focus on organized and structured content. This is what struck me and what made me decide to implement this tool on currently 15 websites... When looking at competitors, mainly the nuke series (PhpNuke, MyPhpNuke, PHPWebsite,..) you will notice rather quickly that PostNuke is the best choice. PhpNuke has a large community but poor development skills (buggy!!) MyPhpNuke has a rather small community and not really a good roadmap...PHPWebsite is veery slow in development but produces good code. PostNuke has a growing community, 88 developers, a cool roadmap and stable code (even though it is only in alpha version (!!!), which I think is rather understatement than reality...). PostNuke is the best CMS I ever used. Everything is modularised. The development is open and the team is really great, and takes care of users' wishes. Try it, you'll never get back.

Installation was easy; it worked right out of the box. Now that I have used PostNuke for a few weeks, I am very happy with its performance. And when I ask newbie questions, I don't get flamed and abused. The development team is actually NICE to me. Overall, I have had a very positive experience with PostNuke.

I've tried the other "web log" programs including PHPnuke and PHPwebsite. Post-Nuke is the first one that had the stability and features that I wanted. It was very easy to install and I do not have access to my server, I have to use a web host. I always had trouble with the others because of this. Post-Nuke rules! Anyone who wants an excellent, professional web site but does not have the time should check this out. -Pughead

I was using for some time PHPNuke then i tried Postnuke just see, and have been using it since, its more bug free, better performance, much better support, a GREAT dev team with CVS, almost everything is modularized, and the future looks even better.

I have been using PHP nuke since version 4.2 and was eagerly waiting for 5 to be completed. When it was I found that the code tended to be bloated and slow. Does this sound familiar? I changed the code to suit my needs but the problem with that is that if I wanted to upgrade the system I would have to redo all my changes. With postnuke I have found that alot of my corrections were already made and most of the HTML that controls layout seems to be in the theme instead of all thoughout the code.

Why try the rest when you can try the best. Postnuke is not just EZ to install for any newbie, but less time spending updating the old fashion way(HTML). What brought me to Post-Nuke was the the devteams key goal to make Post-Nuke bug free and a more modular program. Although the project hasn't yet been completed, they have come a long way in a short period of time. At some point in the future I hope to join the devteam. Thanks.

I began 'Nuking' back in March of '01. That said, my 15 years of professional programming experience were needed to get the application running correctly. When the PostNuke fork was announced in July '01, I was pleased to hear it was going to address issues of reliability and maintainability, but took a wait and see attitude. It appears my waiting was not in vain. The release of 0.63 was almost too easy to install. After some inspection of the source code, it is clear to see why PostNuke runs faster and more reliabiliy than the parent it was forked from. Not only is the code of a higher caliber, but it is far easier for me to customize the system to my specific needs. Kudos to the team.

First of all - I'm not a php expert! I have tried several CMS systems, including PHPMyWebsite and PHPNuke, but the only one that worked right away, without any changes or error messages, was Post-Nuke. It's fairly clean code, and it is made by a devoted team of developers - and I just love the fact that questions from users are answered very quickly and very professionally. PostNuke is easy to use, easy to update. Two thumbs up!

I have been using PHP nuke for quite a while on a couple of my sites. I was getting a lot of traffic (4,000 uniques a day at least) and updating daily and so the format of the CVS seemed to work very well. It had a lot of bugs - but it empiracally did what I needed it to do. I wished that I could add modules like chat and a gallery - but I couldn't ever seem to get them to work right. That is until I started on PostNuke. It took about 6 minutes to install. It worked right out of the box. I installed a better theme that was available from one of the other sites, and no one could tell that it was a php based cvs. I got a lot of praise - even in the beta testing - of the site about the layout and the functionality...and I have had it up for less than 3 days. All the plug in modules I have tried to use have worked great and the amazing amount of support I have been getting is exceptional. I would recommend Post Nuke to anyone who has a familiarity with PHPNuke or other similar products but wants something that works.

I have installed PHP Nuke, PHP Website and some others. This was pretty easy to set up. I am now just running it through some tests to see if it is something I'll use. It would be nice if it included a message board, but so far so good. Keep up the good work!
