The CD includes a Linux distribution, MySQL, PHP4 and utilities for the projects and code listings. Topics covered: The MySQL database server (for both Unix and Windows), Accessing MySQL databases through PHP scripting (the letters don't really stand for anything), Database creation and modification, PHP tricks in order of increasing complexity--everything from basic SQL queries to secure transactions for commerce, Authentication, Network connectivity, Session management, and Content customization.

PHP and MySQL Web Development in PHP :: Books

Okay, what is the normal set up? Hmmmm? PHP and MySQL! Hell, for $5/month all the way to free, one can get a shell account and access to a MySQL db and PHP4.
What Ben Forta's book did for Cold Fusion is what this book will do for PHP. Its so easy to read and comprehend that even I grokk it :-).
I would say that although there are loads of PHP books, this is the only one you need. Get two!

PHP and MySQL Web Development in PHP :: Books
|
I bought this book a little over a year ago after reading numerous good reviews on it and I must say that it lived up to the reviews.
The book is very detailed and easy to follow through. The first section is like a 'dummies guide to php' which is great if you're just starting out and don't know much, but after that it picks up and goes into great detail. This book is for both people that have no clue how to code in php or those that want to be more advanced.
My college offers this book along with one other for those majoring in php. The reason I like this one more is that it's a bit more up to date.
So to sum it up, if you're just starting out or want to become an advanced php coder, I'd definitely recommend this book to you.
