Its a nice portal script much like phpnuke but without all the fuss, perfect for an intranet system or small business site.

Mambo is unlike any of the 'Portal' type systems around (Have you ever noticed how they ALL look the same?). A very easy to customise front end and the most extensive admin backend I've come across. Very well laid out with loads of goodies. The ability to check a record out so others don't write over it is an excellent idea. I'm super impressed.

Mambo is a fantastic 'full strength' content management system released for the open source community. Mambo just couldn't be easier to implement and edit for all our users and content editors/writers and has plenty of features - I just keep finding new ones every week! The clean code, flexibility and power in Mambo are the perfect ingredients for a 'real' web portal. Thanks to all the developers at Miro - well done!

I am experienced with a number of php/ mySql CMSs and was looking forward to trying Mambo. Alas, I just could not get it to run, despite folling the instructions to a tee. The errors were so numerous that I found it too daunting even to think about debugging the code. Anyway, good luck with.

I've worked with just about every CMS and Portal system there is on Hotscripts for testing and review writing, and I can honestly say that Mambo is the best one. Installation easier then you can imagine (I was up in 1 min) Changing your sites design is unbelieveble easy, just one file to change! It has all the features you can imagine and very well laid up for self made modules. Two thumbs up! This is excellent work!

I've been running around on the net for approx a year now searching for a good CMS. I have tested most of the products (found on www.cmsinfo.org) for Windows and none except Mamboserver provides the simplicity and stability I was looking for. Mamboserver is a CMS-system with some portalfeatures. It's possible to deavtivate these features and use the system just for editing your homepage. Mamboserver comes with few templates but if you're used to prog in HTML/PHP there should not be any problems at all making your templates, adding features or mods. Just spend some time investigating how Mambo is programmed! It's definately worth it! The best features in my mind are the WYSIWYG editor, the multilevel hierarchal menusystem and the image- and doc-library. *****

I've tried 40-50 cms's, ran with php-nuke for a year, but when I found mambo I couldn't change over fast enough. Php-nuke is great for a tech site or one with lots of contributing members, but if you what a straight site, easy to maintain, setup and customise then Mambo is it! Doesn't get any better than this( especially when it free!) But I still have a soft spot for phpnuke, it was my first real ;-]

This is the one for you, I am not joking, if your not too good with PHP scripting this one is easy as 1 2 3.... I would say its out of the box running software, but there is no box, the setup was simple, streight forward and non-complex, if it where any more simple you would have nothing to do!. This site is smart, cool and sleak all in one package, try it, you will not be dissapointed.

Mamgo isn't as technicallly sophisticated as some CMSs, but it's ease of use makes up the difference. It's among the very best open source PHP CMSes. CONS: * No automatic formatting of plain text, so text must be entered in HTML * Code not well documented and general documentation lacking after installation * International support improving but still weak (especially dates) * Weak implementation of sub-sections / categories PROS: * Easy to install * Easy to administer * Excellent architecture for use by businesses/organizations and informational websites * Publishing workflow with approval by admins * Very well done administrative interface * Relatively easy to customize, including adding custom modules/components * Primary developers are accessible/responsive The extended version of this review is here: http://shew.jp/mambo/

Review Of: Mambo in PHP :: Portal Systems
This CMS is amazing. And easy. You don't have to be an expert in anything to use it. Not even html knowledge is required unless you want to have a uniqe good-looking site. Otherwise Mambo comes with several different templates you can choose between, a very logical administration and flexibility. It’s easy to setup, clean and fast. I’ve tested it on Windows XP (Apache, PHP, Mysql) and on FreeBSD with the same result: works great. I’ve been using Dixit CMS (another great script) but mambo has more to offer if you want to have a great looking site, personal or corporate. In few minutes this script is up and running and in less than one week you can have the most amazing site/portal/homepage. One thing I’m not so happy about: I want to have my site in 3 different languages and the only solution I see is to have this script installed 3 times. Maybe there is another solution, but I didn't find it yet. Otherwise, this is The Script. I’ve tried at least 4-5 times to install EzPublish 3 (both on Win and FreeBSD) but I couldn’t get running and when I finally did I get so many errors and a illogical administration that I gave up.

I have tried most of the top CMS systems around, postnuke, phpnuke, phpwebsite to name but a few - but for me Mambo is king as it allows webmasters to build a real online news community with many authors - inside an easy to administer good looking shell ! The portal is very easy to install, run a SQL script, edit a few lines in a config file and change a few permissions and you're good to go. A brilliant CMS for those looking for simplicity and not the bloat of the nuke variants.

Review Of: Mambo in PHP :: Portal Systems
A professional CMS, Mambo Open Source is here to stay. It facilitates the user {admin} in updating the site, without recoursing to other addons. MOS' developers thought of almost everything, and K. Arthur Konze of MamboPortal.com works hard at bringing addons like Mambo Gallery, and Mambo GuestBook. The other talented developers work at components and modules, themes and additional hacks which makes this CMS Publishing Suite a plus for any serious and long-term web developer/designer to tinker with. Works on multiplatform, MOS is more than ready for the world. The Administrator CPanel has it all, you can even upload swf files and embed it directly into any of your pages without having to get the codes right. What is interesting in Mambo, is the users facilities. There are forum ware, and members can upload their own articles, newsbytes and weblinks. All in all, Mambo not only does the dance on the International scene with language files, but it rocks with more than 1000 members using it, from publishers to Intranet sites. A must get CMS for those considering serious online publishing/updating of their websites/portal.

Mambo is simply the easiest to install CMS on the market. The Admin controls are also in a league of their own. These two features along with the great theme support ( why aren't all CMS' this easy to theme? ) make Mambo the top choice. A lot of people may have 'errors' in the system after installation. Look closely at them and if they are notices or warnings they are harmless. Add the following line to the top of your configuration.php: error_reporting(0); Everything should then run.

Review Of: Mambo in PHP :: Portal Systems
I can't believe how just plain "easy" Mambo is to install, use, configure, and skin. I've tried just about every CMS on hotscripts. Some were just cheesy and unprofessional looking with no real template options. Some had admin interfaces that were so unbelievably complicated that I couldn't imagine explaining how to use it to an average computer user (who would be updating the site). Then there's Mambo. It literally installed in one minute - all I had to do was create a database for it, and walk through the install wizard providing database login info and the like. The admin control panel is a breeze - very logically organized, and easy enough for an Average Joe to navigate. What most impresses me though is the template system. I've never seen a CMS that is so easy to create templates for! You honestly don't even need programming knowledge, especially if you download the free Macromedia Dreamweaver extension that gives you a toolbar for inserting all Mambo PHP code into your custom template. There's even an add-on module "template generator" that can write new templates for you just by completing a wizard like series of forms (color choices, font sizes, layout options, etc). I haven't even begun to explore all of the add-ons and available modules, and I can say right now that my search for a CMS is over!! Mambo is it. It's easy, completely customizable, and it works. Love it.

Mambo is easy to use and easy to modify. Installation is very easy, even manually. Some very nice work is being done by the developers of Mambo. It recenly won an award for best open source software. If you are looking for a CMS that makes things easy for you, give mambo a try. There is a large community involved with mambo and many people developing templates, modules, components, and other add-ons that extend the script for many many uses. If you're a paying customer, it's easy to find talented people to help you with customization for a reasonable charge. I'm particularly impressed with what people have done with mambo. A template can be made that looks nothing like mambo does out of the box. With more features coming with upcoming releases, it's worth anyone's look. Give it a try.......I'm thoroughly satisfied! AND it's FREE! I hope that never changes!

Less experienced webmasters MAY be able to install and use mambo as a “stand alone” CMS, but customization, or running it with other (outside) software, plus it’s steep learning curve can turn into major problems. The few plug-ins available for mambo are mediocre at best, and because of it’s unusual core design, mambo is just not compatible with any other top quality components that are required to build a modern style community type web site. I also found many members of the mambo support forum rather picky, unsupportive, defensive, immature, even rude, and without business sense.

Bright side: 1.Easy to install. 2.Has some useful features like polls, faq, simple-to-install templates, blog, newsfeeds, etc. 3.There are plenty of add-ons available. Dark Side: 1. It is not so easy to manage as it is advertised. If you are not familiar with CMS packages, it may take some time and patience to learn something. 2. Available templates are not so attractive. 3. People in support forums can be very rude. You cannot get enough support for this software everytime you need.
