I find like most of these scripts they lack installation instructions for FTP. They need to take into consideration that everyone that has a website doesnt nessesarily have Telnet access. Other than that its Excellent.

I like this script a lot! It would have got an 'Excellent!' except for the fact that it's very annoying to edit! I'm an advanced programmer, yet I found it very tricky to adjust the layout of the script. It's a very good script otherwise though! Still could use a lot of extra gimmicky little features though but can't have it all I guess!

This is very easy to setup. Even novice can do this with ease. Keep up the good work guys!

Be aware, if you want problems, this script is for you!
I paid to have Phorum installed on our site by its developers ...plus more money for simple customizations.
Unfortunately, Phorum has never worked right and it has been nothing but problems. Support for the product consists only of a jumbled mass of "forum" posts by angry, pissed-off people who are trying to make a buggy freebie work anyway.
What a mess.
My advice to anyone seeking a forum script, is to pass on Phorum and find another company with better support, reputation, and a company phone number to a real person.
As for us, we're looking for another forum script now.

On my site I am running Phorum version 3 software for almost six years now. I never had any problems with it and my users love the clean non-bloated interface.
I recently have been playing with the new development version (5.1 alpha) and am very excited about all the new features and the hook system, which makes it possible for me to integrate Phorum in my site both cleaner and easier than before.
In short: I just can't wait for the 5.1 version getting stable and released! :-)

love this system, its 90% faster than most traditional php forums. and its easier to attach picture etc.

Did what they said to do in the install, which was not very clear, and it did not work. I have tried 20 BB systems so I have an idea how to install.
Went to get help, but you must be a member to post questions. I will not be a member until I know I am going to use it--so customer service sucks as does their docs.

I have been running Phorum for a little over a month. The install and instructions were great! The BIG reason I moved to this forum software is the “moderation” capabilities, specifically the ability for the moderator to approve ALL messages. This setting can be turned on or off. This is a great feature as I seem to have been getting a lot of SPAM on my message boards. Message boards have become popular with spammers.

The criticisms written in other reviews are very outdated, or frankly unbelievable without suspecting impatient numpties were involved in a setup attempt! The script is easy to install, the easiest by far to intergrate into your own website design, associated with a very helpful community, brilliant add on mods if necessary. The phorum, is at heart uncomplicated, uncluttered, fast, easy to mod and integrate. I've searched hard for the best forum for my folk music community, and this is it!!!!!

Having tried various other forums including PHPBB and SMF they all have their merits but this one comes up trumps for me. It's very configurable and the support forum is very useful with answers and requests being answered quickly. The installation is simple and you can be up and running very quickly, although an understanding of basic web configurations will help. I also like the additional modules that can be added for various enhancements spam protection, message formatting etc.

The new Phorum 5.1.16a is fantastic. I've got 5 older versions running for over a year and no problems, but the NEW versions has so many added attractions. Its intuitive and wonderful to use with many added modules and added safety features!
Try it! You'll love it!

i definitely agree with jsjwilson. The criticism of the previous posts are horribly outdated. I've used phorum version 3 in the past and although i already liked it - i must admit that back then it required quite a bit of knowledge and reading.
It has undergone some major version changes though and one of the things they have greatly improved is the installation. It is now incredibly easy to install!
Besides speed, the amount of control and features you have is far superior to other forums.

I have been using Phorum on several sites ever since the first versions came out. What can I say, it is easy to install, wonderfull template system and very very stable. All in all I would say that it is one of the best if not the best out there. Fast, secure, easy to create mods, easy to template. I look forward to see Phorum evolve further. Keep up the good work Dev team!!!
