I was impressed by ISPConfig in many ways. It supports a good number of OSs; For newbies it gives a simple "do this, now do that" HOW-TO detailing how to set up a LAMP server for each supported OS.
ISPConfig supports a number of server components and is easy to use. The support of its community in very good; the support of its authors is OUTSTANDING! A commercial version is also available.
I found ISPConfig to be logical, secure and extremely well thought out.
