I found an article that explains how to optionally load the xmlDoc using XMLHttpRequest. Looks like the example is based on this very script.

Don't forget to make a local version of the rss available using perl or php so FF can render it.
The script will be a 5 if it's fixed. I'm having my client update their news sidebar by posting to a blog. No more hand-rolled micro content management systems...YAY!
