The Web's future: XHTML 2.0
Over the years, HTML has only become bigger, never smaller, because new versions had to maintain backward compatibility. That's about to change. On 5 August 2002, the first working draft of XHTML 2.0 was released and the big news is that backward compatibility has been dropped; the language can finally move on. So, what do you as a developer get in return? How about robust forms and events, a better way to look at frames and even hierarchical menus that don't require massive amounts of JavaScript. This article takes a sneak peek at what's new in XHTML 2.0 and how you might one day put it to use.

What is XML Sapiens?
The number of commercial CMSs is diligently growing up. Many of open standards have been approved lately. They allow to structure information within sites, separate it from design, but the most of CMSs still dont follow them. The XSLT standard exists for quite a long time. It allows to form documents from different sources: XML-files with structured document contents and an XSL-template with the description how the document will be presented at the site. Besides, document forming can be performed at the client side. Well, XSLT is a perfect solution in conception, but practically it is used quite rarely within CMSs. Why? Maybe we need new solutions, which include features of the open standards and are easy to use. One of those solutions can be XML Sapiens markup language. So, what is XML Sapiens?

Professional XML
A serious look at how to use XML in sophisticated real-world Web applications, Professional XML goes beyond your run-of-the-mill tutorial by giving you practical examples and techniques. The book focuses on W3C XML and the various enabling technologies that are becoming entwined with XML. It provides three threads of content, representing the different angles from which readers will approach XML. The first covers the core material, including well-formed syntax, data modeling, and the Document Object Model (DOM)--a critical programming interface to XML documents. The other two threads cover the most common usages of XML: as a data format and transport mechanism, and as a visual presentation language for human interaction.

Decoding XML and the DTD
posted bykwigintinAuthoring
This introductory article shows how to create XML Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and well-formed, well-defined XML files that can be validated by the XML parser of your choice. While you don't have to include a DTD with every XML file you produce, doing so will make your life a lot easier. Not only will a DTD enforce the syntax you've established for your XML files, it will also allow your files to be parsed by a validating XML parser. Code samples include DTD and XML document examples.
