Any help in this matter will be highly appreciated.

I started an article directory kinda website. The articles stored in the database are fetched by a single read.php page.

Thus all the article webpages' url looked like www.essencz.com/read.php?id=89 (the id just changes)

However, I rewrite the urls and the current looking url is something similar to

Air Brake System of a Railway or Diesel Locomotive

but, as you can see the "read.php?url= still shows in the url which we are unable to remove.

This is actually done with htaccess.

Example:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^read/(.+)$ read.php?url=$1 [NC]

EDIT: Also your links should be http://www.site.com/read/The-Page-You-Want
