I'm not sure what's going on over at the phpShop shop, but something is wrong. The new version 0.8 download pkg is missing the all important index.php file. This is like General Motors building a car and putting it on the showroom only to find they forgot to put the engine in it. How does this happen?! For this irresponsible slip-up my rating for this program is obvious - 1(poor).

Well done! It was not so hard to install (but probably u must send your dog for readme.txt) Administrating interface is nice, clear and easy to understand even without reading documentation. Now started to hack to fit my own needs.

phpShop is probably a good shopping cart script, but the installation guide is very, very far from good. Perhaps an installer would be a good idea?

This script seems a simple web store front package, but behind the scenes is really a very well thought out application development platform. It uses a very cool feature that I think is genial. They use the concept of modules and functions. Modules are basically a plugin and Functions are a way to make something happen. So for example, the userLogin function is called via the URL to log a user in. The fact that you can add functions and modules makes this package developer friendly and encourages further development and modification. I found installation to be very easy. However, I don't think this package is meant for newbies or people that have not had experience installing other PHP-based apps. But if you are a serious developer and want to get your hands on a well thought out architecture and a decent shopping cart application, then this one is for you. Don't let the demo fool you. There is power to spare in their design. Oh, and I have seen the next release that they are working on. Looks like this script is going to go a long way.

This script needs either an install script, with configurable options, or a clearer installation description. The software, once installed, is a solid product with simple functionality - a complete contrast to the overly-difficult installation process.

phpShop is created using unusual modular form that is a little hard to hack at first. But once you understand the logic, it's as easy as reading a book.I use the code and tweak it a little bit for my needs without too much trouble. The modules for shopping chart and the backend is very complete. Those guys sure think of everything!
