I'm setting up a matchmaking site for swingers, and osDate is fairly decent. It's not designed for swingers, but I have enough PHP skills to tweak it for my purposes. The generic template ain't great. More templates cost $$$. You can create you own though if you have HTML programming skills. The support forums are loaded with other users, so there are lots of answers to questions. Some bugs, but again, the forums usually have the solutions. I don't think you can really beat free either.

Members complain about donating $$ to the site and then the members get banned if they post something the Moderators don't like. Script is buggy at best and prone to security breeches and hacks.

The site is very slow and cannot take even moderate traffic without draining up your dedicated server CPU. Don’t believe me? See how all images have the same name and are generated dynamically every time. That means that every picture showing is like a mini program running on your server. There is no cashing for images. They are generated and transferred every time when a user hit refresh page.
Database design is pour having over 72 tables, many of them not being optimized. Many others..

I have been a part of the osDate community since the release of v1, also as a [active] moderator, and osDate is sub par. I have installed it dozens of times and made modifications so I am no novice.
Bugs, unnecessary variables, coding of no use, improper use of constants/global variables, unnecessary multiple nested tables in templates, unused styles, "doors" to nowhere, incorrectly coded cache system, optimization and security are just some of the issues that make this script unworthy.

When you upload pics for a new approved profile it says how many pics you uploaded (but showing none because none is yet approved). This is bogus because the last user sees that the profile has n pictures but can’t see any. Even after approval there are some issues. Let’s say if you approve al pics all seems fine but if you reject pics you will end up with the pics showing the default no picture thumbnail. This is undesirable because when you search only for profile with pictures you get errors
