I found amember easy to install and it is one of the easiest scripts out there for automatic protection of content, which is lacking in many scripts (I should know I'be tried over 20 membership scripts) the problem is price. It's expensive and you have to pay more for 'add ons'. Also you can only use it on one site unless you pay even more. The templates are not that easy to customize, and this really is what you want with a membership site. The other thing I found was that the script requires your site to have SSL installed and this is another added expense and sometimes is complicated for novices to get used to. If it were cheaper I would recommend it, but I would look elsewhere. If you have a wordpress site checkout s2member which is free.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
