Ok, I am a newbie and old (67). I have some time and wanted to make a little money and learn something new. I tried making a directory using PHPLD. This is beyond great. No problems running the directory and when I have a question, support is always ready to help me. Even stupid questions were answered without any nasty comments. I wish everything worked like this.

So far I have had no problems with the script other than poor server response time and that is not their problem. I have had good communications with support. I just wish they had a more useful manual.

Version 4.2 is my second attempt at using PHPld. The first ended in total disaster and a slanging match with the developer who refused me a refund as well.
I too had problems with support. Things change (thankfully) and as far as this app is concerned, the change is for the better. I updated an older version (the one I couldn't get a refund on) and bought removal of the link back. Then I paid the $20 for installation by PHPLD themselves after experiencing the Godaddy 'experts' on the support phones.
Unlike my earlier experience, this time installation was fast and fairly priced... Excellent stuff. It was installed the next day and works very well.
Customer support is an area way too many software developers treat as an interuption to their work instead of the reason for it. I'm pleased to find my (second) experience with PHPLD (4.2) and in this instance with the developer, was both prompt and priced fairly. Thanks for the change guys... Its refreshing and long overdue.Keep it up and I might use PHPLD for my other directories.

I've never been more dissapointed in this software. The customer service alone sucks royally!!!! All I got from David Duvall was excuses of why he hadn't contacted me. I discovered that there is not as many templates as is claimed on the site for the newest version. And the one component I wanted, is still in beta testing; may or may not work.
I uninstalled the software from my server and competely from my computer system. I can even provide a log that this is true.
I demanded a refund ,and David "Refused". I would reccomend that all of you who paid for this and were not satisfied and contact the BBB etc.

What this person explained here versus what they said to our support staff is completely different. We did not appreciate being threatened. Generally we do honor refund requests if someone is polite and first allows us to try to help them. It's difficult when someone won't let you attempt to help them, and continues with threats. In this case, we wanted to make sure that a Paypal representative could properly review what this customer said, which they did. Had this customer apologized and given us a chance to help, I'm sure things could have gone quite differently, and we do give refunds, but only after we can have some reasonable discussion. People sometimes makes things difficult for themselves and that is unfortunate.
Great script to make a link/article directory

I was looking for a script which could be used as a article directory as well as link directory. Phplinkdirectory 4.1 does exactly that. I didn't have any problems installing it as it is very easy to install. Mind you I don't have any knowledge of php coding etc. The installer guides you through the installation steps which are very newbie friendly. I didn't have any problems installing this script and I did it without the help of anybody. If your looking for a directory script which is easy to install and yet has all the great features then I think phplinkdirectory is for you. I will happily recommend it to everybody.

This is a great script right out of the box. Real easy to installwith integrated install script. Uses widgets to display any content you wish to choose, It has options to create unlimited link types, google maps, and many more features. This script is well worth the asking price.

I decided to go ahead and give this a try, since it’s cheaper than phpmydirectory. I had some problems installing my directory, but I got ahold of the owner David on skype and he got it running for me. It has all the usual features you’ll find in these kinds of packages for directory sites; but I really like how easy it is to manage users and content without spending a lot of time to learn it. The Ajax category option for directories is pretty good for directories that have a lot of things to index, it keeps it clutter free and easy to use. The payment functionality is pretty cool too if you want to host ads and featured links/articles. I’ll agree with some of the other reviewers here, it can be a little buggy but it’s nothing that’s going to break functionality. The templating system is based on SMARTY, so you can easily find someone to customize it for you. What was great was though I had some issues, I talked to the person who codes the software, not some outsourced guy in East Asia. If you’re looking for something that’s small and affordable, I’d highly recommend it.

Am experiencing worst time after buying PHPLD, I bought PHPLD after reading reviews and rating points in most of the forum , it shows good review and rating points about PHPLD but now am surfing for last 45 days to get my final script, working with David Duval is a bad experience, I paid in advance that to in hourly bases, entire script will become too expensive. Buying just a PHPLD script does not generate money for your directory , as there are thousands of PHPLD script are on net, all look similar hence webmasters will not pay for directories submission on your website. if you don’t offer something special to your visitors they will not pay you, I tried to do the same with PHPLD but lost my money, all my time, David duval don’t even reply after taking money, he left work in midway, he is only dependent on his freelancers. There are many other directories script online, i suggest who has a large support team, who can provide good after sales service, but don’t buy PHPLD. I guess all the rating which you see about PHPLD is self proclaim strategy by david duval and his freelances. I guess most of the good rating is given by his own people. While I am not sure who this person is because they didn't identify themselves, I think it is an unfortunate case where the person had big plans but was not clear on the scope of their project. We ALWAYS reply to customers who contract us on an hourly basis, and we never make quotes involving a fixed price when it comes to customization simply because it is difficult to predict the amount of detail work needed. If this is the person I believe it is we pitched in extra hours of free work to try to help them. I think they paid for about 5 hours of work, and we did about 12 hours of work (so 7 free). Even then the customer is demanding more work by us for free. We have lots of happy customers, but I understand some customers are not experienced with managing projects, but we try our best to help, but it is important to understand we bill by the hour because we work for a living.

Its pretty good.. i recommend it.
DONT try PhpMyDirectory, or you will find the worst support ever.
We have being working with phpmydirectory for about 4 month, and from the first day.. we have been never happy with them... we see the only thing left to do is just move around to the next script, becouse their support is the worst ever you could find.

you will have many work with it (: Support does prefer helping paid mods than removing their bugs. Always the same questions in forum. Does not reliable run after weeks for work. It is so frustrating !

OK for the price, but you get what you pay for. Lots of bugs and unattebtive tech "support". If you have the time to spend running down the bugs, it's OK, but don't expect a lot of help, they keep techical details close to the vest.

Never could get it working correctly on a vanilla Red Hat server with a standard PHP and MySQL install. Tech support was nonexistent. I don't question that it works fine for some people, but for me it was a complete waste of $25.

We actually interacted with this user several times, and continue to offer help if they can just grant us the access that we need. It seems they are running their server from home or similar, and are trying to be their own server admin. We actually have experienced server admins on staff and can certainly get it running at no extra charge! Unfortunately, this user is not allowing us to have the proper access we need to help. :(

Creating a directory style website with phpLD will allow you to display products you promote in an organized way. phpLD creates Search Engine Optimized pages that will help attracting quality traffic to your site. Also the people at phpLD are very responsive to any questions you might have before and after buying the product.
Templating is way too dificult.

Overall I'd have to say the scripts does what they say, though I haven't tested every aspect yet. The reason? I can't get past editing the template. I'm not a newbie at this, have templated lots of other scripts. But this one is complex to say the least. And although they boast about dozens of templates available, those are provided by third parties with their own licensing agendas. The developer should provide more templates for beginners, and not depend on third parties to fill this need.
Slow page loads, hard to change templates - Nothing Spectacular

What I didn't like on this is the extremely slow page loads. On submit pages my viewers would spend quite a long time for that page to load.
I thought this should be fast, cause it could drive away potential submitters.
As soon as another version came out, upgrading was a nightmare especially re tuning the existing template.
As for the features, most of the other vendors offer the same, so nothing special here.
Finally we went with another vendor and are much happier with them.

Slow page load time is definitely something that could have been solved by asking for help. If you still need help, please visit out support forums. With templates, we use Smarty which is the most popular system for PHP. There are literally hundreds of templates available for phpLD, and others have had great success in making their own templates. Like anything else, it does require some effort to achieve excellent results. Again, if you need help, please do visit our support forum.

I upgraded to phpLD 3.2 a few days ago with no problems whatsoever. I was very impressed by the new admin control panel and the many new functions incorporated into it; being able to have the option to integrate articles in with a chosen directory category is an excellent idea and links well with my main blog website (Spiritfolk.com), an example of a link to an article at http://directory.spiritfo lk.com/angels/. If your looking for an excellent directory software then phpLD 3.2 is for you!

I just wanted to make a couple of comments about this script! I am an SEO tech and I was very impressed with the smooth ride that you get on your way to rank land with the phpLD directory line, but then they came out with the new version 3.2 ! Unreal! These scripts are so user friendly and loaded with all of the latest SEO goodies as well as great features to boot! You can use the default script which is excellent, or is fully customizable as well to do just about anything!! Thanks phpLD
The Best Directory Script

I am not an old user of phpLD, started using it just a month ago & I think I made the right choice by getting it. The installations was easy as 1,2,3. Most of Admin options were self explaining. (A better documentation can help a lot) With quick category adder, it took me few minutes to have a complete directory structure.
So far, I simply love this script. Easy, stable, search engine friendly and with so much options to improve your directory experience. What else you need??

The team over at the phpLD forums did a fantastic job helping me convert a catholic directory that was using another script over to phpLD. Now that I'm using the script, I'm loving it. I especially like the email function. I have been sending link exchange requests to catholic churches to request link exchanges, and I'm getting several links per day now. I couldn't be happier. Well i bought this directory script, and installed it. Which was very easy. Plus there are so many mods / features for this script which makes it excellent and dominant over the other scripts. Not only that, if you face any problems you can always get instant support from their forum, and the staff there will do almost anything to help you out. They are very co-opeartive.
My final words would be - Best from the features to the price. Great support !

I was looking for a good script for a while now.Many google PR problems, unfriendly support, no answers, just problems.Then, there is was, php link directory.Even the support staff helped me in crisis.My opinion : there is nothing better than this.I use it, I love it.

PHPLD is one of the easiest way to create a web directory on the web! You can customize it as you wish, change the design, add other mods (that the phpld forum provides).
If you have problem setting up your directory, there is a support forum where you can ask for help! I had a problem with one of my directory and i got David himself fixing that problem for me, and it was very fast, even though he lives in the US and me in Vietnam!
If phpld was a hotel i would give it 6 stars!

The script itself is below average quality and "support" forum (that you have to pay annual fee for access) is nothing but

This script is simple poor and STILL has bugs, bugs, and more bugs!!!
It plageurizes other scripts and then claims them for their own. David Duval (The Godfather) knows no php and gets novice scriptwriters to do work so no wonder it aint safe (Look at forum!) As for the last poster who gave 5 stars :-) Am I wrong here or isnt arindra an anagram of ADRIAN one of Duval's followers! If you are going to use rep sites like this use rep methods and honest opinions not fake ones! Still no refund.

I see this is the second negative posting by the same person! We always help people that are respectful of the hard we do. In a case like this person who is hateful, they definitely will not get a refund. Arinda is a relatively new user, and posted a positive message, because he likes the script. It is fortunate that we have people that take the time to right a good revue to offset people like "Honest" Al who has written 2 negative reviews.

i am quite surprised at the 1-2 odd reviews above , coz to me this has been one of the better php scripts i have come across considering the time i needed to get it running is none. i am sure most people will be raving about the features so i wont, but i can tell you that i have just paid the basic price of $25 and not even $75 and i am still satisfied. The way WP made blogging simple for a layman, i feel phpLD singlehandedly gave rise to webnasters opening directories.

Sad to agree that the script is v.poor, bugs bugs and more, they do get hostile when u want refund, they do send guys over to places to post 5 stars, script is only ok, not worth more than $10 imho @ an0nym0us above is nothin if butt lickin moderator with attitude. Duval knows squat on php gets credit for smart kids to do work for peanuts hence bugs all time. On brighter side, has scope but long way from being any good yet. David can I have my refund? $75 ain't much to you but is too me.

If you just look at our forum, you will see that people are continuously getting help, and that we are continuing to make new releases and improving. When I hear these sorts of comments, it saddens me, because I work very hard to help the 8000+ users of the script, as does our dev team and forum moderators. Fortunately, we have far more satisfied users, who had the patience to work with us until they had a successful directory. 98% of the time it installs perfectly on the first attempt. :)

To the above poster all I have to say is:
If anyone has a problem getting this script installed(aka vixen00), you DO NOT BELONG ON THE INTERNET, so pack your bags and gtfo.
This script is by far and above the easier to install, manipulate, and understand. I had no previous knowledge of the scripting/programming languages needed to work with phpld, and now, two weeks later, I possess one of the best directories out there. (from what i am told)

80-90% of the 5/5 ratings are posted by script owner.
My issues:
- I paid $75, when first issue came I asked for details but I was asked for $10 to join the forum.
- They have email templates in admin pane but the variable names are incorrect (their users know that).
- When I ask about the issue I was told that if he looks into it he will not have time for dancing.
- User login doesn't work
m more bugs.

We have now spent about 5 hours working with this person so far, both in the support forums, and on instant messenger. While we have been continuing to focus on helping, this person seems to lack the ability to productively solve issues. We did a free installation of the software for them, and answered multiple questions. It is unfortunate that some people don't appreciate the efforts we make, but fortunately there are literally thousands of satisfied users.

I bought this script for $75 because of too many good reviews here.
Now I think this is the advertising company.
First of all, the script has a bunch of bugs - it just didn't work from the beginning!
Thech support is inadequate. You have to find out what is going and ask for help from other customers on the forum. The script's owner won't help you! LOL.
Now I have the problem to get refund. The owner became very uncooperative if you asked your money back.

We offered this person free installation, free support, and even free hosting. I spent no less than 4 hours trying to help them, only to find that the real reason they were causing problems is they had purchased a different script. They emailed me almost every day. Just to make sure I was making a good decision, this case was reviewed by moderators and a couple of other forum members. They recommended I stop helping this person, and not give them a refund. I gave them a refund anyway.

I've downloaded and installed so many different link scripts (found them all here at HotScripts.com) and I think PHP Link Directory is the best of the best. Easy to install, easy to learn, great UI, and it does everything I can imagine wanting to do with a link directory.

Not only is this a great script for setting up a directory that can accept payments, give static URLs, and be easy to manage, but it also has one of the better communities on the net. People listen to your mod idea's and make them real. The developer is almost always there to either help out or fund your new idea's if you realease it to the public. Overall an awesome script.

I have been searching for a links listing script to replace the CGI web directory scripts I have been using as I am updating all my websites with a CMS front end that uses CSS and no html tables.
PHPLD is the perfect solution:
It integrates well with php/mysql CMS as the html templates can be easily styled with CSS for table-less pages.
It is search engine friendly as mod rewrite is used for all pages PLUS each category title, description, and keyword metags are unique for optimum SEO.

I've used a lot of directories including DMOZ but this one beats them all by far! It has a lot of features like page rankings, security code validation to stop hackers, and it's very easy to manage!

Good feature set, Active development community. Covers most of the things that you want in a directory script with the best price! Free - So many other scripts in this space, but none of them offer the same features for free - I look forward to it maturing over the next several months and taking it from Very Good to the Excellent it will become.
Grab a copy, use it for your link exchange program or start a niche directory of your own - certainly a script worth looking at

Simple to set up. Easy to customize if you are at all familiar with HTML (and a bit of PHP helps). Numerous features (I'm still discovering some of them) and more planned with the next release due in a couple of days, some not found in other directory scripts I've reviewed.
And all in a small footprint.

I run this directory on my own site to help build my popularity (through requiring reciprocal links). I spent several days searching the web for a free, SEO Optimized, script of this nature. This is the best (only?) one I have found. It has a great admin interface, very easy to validate recip links, and was a simple install. Was very easy to template into my existing site. Support service is wonderful, only a few hours after posting a question I received an answer with instructions to fix the problem. Only drawback that could be ascribed to this script is no way to seed the directory with DMOZ content.
Deserves every integer of the 5 rating!

I am a novice programmer. In real life I am in broadcast marketing. I know some code but in times of trouble I could use some assistance ASAP as the house is burning down. That's what I got from the people offering phplinkdirectory link exchange software. It was very easy to install - even though there isnt a manual yet. If i had questions i posted them on the Support Forum board and they were answered within minutes or hours. (Not sure when these guys sleep). I downloaded the software after weeks of reading adn demoing all the different offerings on HotSCripts. Was on the verge of buying like-n-kind software when they released V2.0. GRABBED IT. Hey its free! But after using the new V2.0 and getting great support/answers to my issues I made a voluntary donation to help them out. Least I could do was buy them dinner. I am thrilled to this point. Highly recommend. Worth a good look and try out. Thanks

I've tried a slew of link directories but I've settled on the PHP Link Directory as it does what I want.
The Pros
Very simple to use (helpful when your link team doesn't have english as 1st language)
Semi-automated email exchanges (this is optimal in my books)
Search engine friendly URLs
New version has recip link checker

The Cons
Not many but...
Doesn't look for cloaked links or ones using ref="nofollow"
The on server is slightly heavier than what I'd expect with a normal link checker

Professional looking, easy for users, easy for admin, and super-smooth installation and integration (only had to template 2 pages!). Doc a bit sketchy, but good for a free script. Didn't need support (!) but the site forum seemed to be both responsive and useful for those who have posted. If you need a free linking utility, use this one- no questions
