Glossword enables easy Google-juice

An on-site glossary is a great way to build natural SEO traffic. Its an open invitation for Google to index your site as a mini-wikipedia. The challenging part is building a glossary engine that generates definition vignettes for Google to spider. Enter Glossword: This PHP script has everything to build a Google-juiced on-site glossary. Since Im a novice HTML-hack, it took me a few hours to get it working. Lexicographers, stop by!

I have been researching the market in search of a dictionary compiling software. Apart from few desktop commercial applications there is also a handful of them at sourceforge.net. But there is really only one free web-based multiuser dictionary management system on the market - Glossword. What does make it really useful for any lexicographer is the following: - XML as the main dictionary format (you can add whatever dictionary fields you want, edit xml in an external editor and then import it into glossword); - skin-based design - you can adjust design to your own preferences; - convenient navigation (find a searched term within seconds, its companions in the index are not far to get hold of); - admin - lexicographer - user - all have their priviledges in the system (different people can edit different entries of the same dictionary simultaneously!); - php + MySQL required only, standard hosting plan. What can be added: - multimedia support so that dictionary can contain images, audio and video files; - custom dictionary indexation (nest, reverse, custom, etc.). The php code is translucent and easy to modify. Way to go, Dmitry! Thank you for the excellent piece of software.
A real dictionary tool

Glossword is by far the best dictionary tool ever written. It's not the usual "terms database" interface with a search box, it's a full featured dictionary, with important features like translations, abbreviations, definitions, synonyms, linked words, source of information, etc. It's not limited to ONE dictionary, it was designed to work with "topics", where each topic can have several dictionaries. Each dictionary can be imported and exported to XML or sqldump, a real timesaver if you already have the data to use on your dictionaries. Support is top notch, there's plenty documentation, the site is in russian and english, and it's the first application to have a "video" guide, on Windows Media format, for the people who don't want to read README files, and in case of trouble you can contact the author on SourceForge (it's GPL!!!). Excellent pick.
