This is a simple Perl script that simulates the Unix tool "finger".

This whois tool will automatically query the correct registry, and return all of the data it can find. For example, if you enter www.geektools.com, it will find that there is only a record for geektools.com, not www.geektools.com, and will return that data. If you enter www.cisco.co.uk, it will find the data for cisco.co.uk, and return it. If you enter an ip address, it will return the ARIN record for the address, or if the address is assigned to RIPE or APNIC, it will return the RIPE or APNIC record. For example, a search for 195.184.45.18 will return the RIPE record for www.bayer.dk. It can be run as both command line and CGI.

The Finger Server is a web based, "pseudo" unix finger server with a nice browser oriented interface. Users who have an account can logon and update their .plan files for other to see. Visitors to your site can check the plans of their favorite users for project updates, personal thoughts, etc. The Finger Server also makes a great internal company project status board and is a wonderful tool for bringing together an internet community devoted to a particular subject.

This script as its name implies, is a system monitor program that runs on a unix server. It checks every 5 minutes to see that your servers main functions are operating within normal parameters and emails you immediately if they are not. Below is a list of what this script checks for. Currently this script is only designed for linux systems. If you run other variants of Unix you will need to configure some parts of the program to use it properly. If you run NT, forget it.

HISTORY Originally I was looking for a simple SOCKS5 Server (with user/pass auth) that would run as a non-root user on FreeBSD. I checked the FreeBSD ports for various SOCKS5 solutions and tried them all, only to discover that each one had a reason why it would not work, or why I could not use it. I figured this could be done in perl, but found that there was no well maintained perl based solutions. I hacked together this solution (with help from public domain scripts) and cleaned it up, ready for release. Its simple, a feature I intend to maintain, however there is scope for much more potential, especially with user feedback.
