HTML::Embperl
posted byrichterinLibraries & Modules
Embperl gives you the power to embed Perl code in your HTML documents. Using Perl means being able to use a very elaborate programming language, which is widely used for WWW purposes. You can also use hundreds of Perl modules which have already been written - including DBI - for database access to a growing number of database systems. While this could also be done with other packages, Embperl has several features especially for HTML: dynamic tables, formfield-processing, escaping/unescaping and more. Embperl is a server-side tool, which means it's browser-indpendent. It can run in various ways: Under mod_perl, as a cgi script, or offline.

Language
posted bywebmasterinLanguage Based
Redirects a user to the page based on their language. For example, English language user browsers, which report the language as 'en' in most cases, can be redirected to an English page, while Spanish language user browser, which report the language as 'es' in most cases, can be sent to a separate Spanish page. This method works well for redirecting users in all the languages that you set up. Instructions on adding more languages are included in the source code. It works only with version 4.0+ browsers.

CodeBrainSlider
posted bysupportinSlide Shows
CodeBrainSlider is a multi-image slide-show presentation tool. It will handle up to 100 images, and each image is linkable (URL, frame, target). Images can be of different sizes and widths. A VerticalMode parameter lets the applet auto-center vertically, or position the images all against the top or the bottom. Additional parameters allow control of the thickness of both the frame and border, and the colors of the frame, the border, and the link boxes for the images. The applet features simplicity of setup and a very small, fast, single .class file. Protective coding limits parameter errors, and the parameter set is quite easy to use. Data sheets, sample set-ups and graphics are included with the download kit.

Internet Spy (i-spy)
posted byigorlinWeb Indexing
I-Spy is a Perl script which identifies new files on various remote FTP and Web sites. It grabs and compares contents of FTP directories and web pages. It will then compile a report and either send it via e-mail or save it as a web page. You may also request both deliveries of the report.
For e-mail reports, you may request plain text or HTML. I-Spy logs its activity as it chugs along. You may specify the log
directory, or I-Spy will try to find one automatically. For web page reports, I-Spy will attempt to store the log in such a place where it may be referenced by the report and served by the web server.

CodeBrainQ CounterKit
posted bysupportinText Based
This is a text-based counter script that performs two functions. It increases the count by one, and then prints the new count to the page. If the ShowIP feature is enabled in the script, then the page visitor's IP will likewise be displayed. You can make the counter output appear in any font face, size, or color; just use font tags around the SSI include. If you don't want the counter visible on the page, make the color in those font tags the same as the background color of the page.

A free alternative to Cold Fusion or ASP?
posted bytbrockwoodinMagazine Articles
Ask most Web application developers their scripting language of choice, and you'll find that most are divided into two camps - the Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) folks, and the Cold Fusion users. If you do a little more research however, you'll find there are other options out there, and one of these, PHP 3.0, is in much wider use than one would think for an "alternative product".
