Web Secretary is a web page monitoring software. However, it goes beyond the normal functionalities offered by such software. Not only does it detect changes based on content analysis (instead of date/time stamp or simple textual comparison), it will email the changed page to you with the new contents highlighted. Web Secretary is written in Perl and should be able to run on all Unix systems with the Perl interpreter (and LWP module) installed.

This script searches either the current directory or a target directory for a file containing the required contents, to replace a find/grep combination for recursive finding.

WebSearch allows users to search for key words in documents located on your Web site. It searches the basic text of the documents, as well as ALT text and any information contained in META "keywords" and "description" tags. The script scores the match URLs based upon the frequency with which the requested key terms appear in the documents, and also lists the date on which each file was last modified. You can easily configure the number of matches which will be displayed on each results page.

SillySearch lets you allow a visitor to search through pages in a single directory on your website for pages containing words that the user enters into a form. They can choose to search only for files containing all the words they enter, or to search for files containing any one of the words. Results are returned ranked by how many of the terms were found in the page. If the page has html TITLE tags, the results will show a link with that title linking to the page. If the page does not have TITLE tags, it will just show the name of the page.

Simple Search allows you to integrate a keyword and boolean search program into your site so that users can search specified text and HTML documents. It then returns a list of filenames (displayed based on their title tag found in the HTML page) which matched the specified keyword(s).

The Hukilau Search Engine, is a CGI script written in Perl designed to do a keyword search of all the web pages in a directory. It is designed to be easy to install and is for small to medium sites. The program will only search for pages in one directory, and will return all pages if the keyword is the same as an HTML tag.

Htgrep is a CGI script written in Perl that allows you to query any document accessible to your HTTP server on a paragraph-by-paragraph basis. Htgrep is a generic front-end to htgrep.pl, a Perl package that makes it relatively easy to implement simple search engines for the WWW.
