Professional Asp Xml
posted bycontentinProgramming Books
This book is for intermediate to advanced ASP programmers, who have little or no knowledge of XML, and want to expand their programming ability by adding XML skills to their repertoire. XML will be explained from the ground up. However, other technologies will not be discussed in such detail and it is assumed that the user is familiar with other Internet techniques on the Microsoft platform, such as (D)HTML, client-side scripting with JScript, and programming in Visual Basic. You should have at least a basic understanding of three-tier architectures like Microsoft DNA. If you have read or heard a bit about XML and wonder how to use it best, building on your existing programming skills, then this book is for you.

Python Programming on Win 32
posted bycontentinProgramming Books
Python Programming on Win32 is the first book to demonstrate how to use it as a serious Windows development and administration tool. Unlike scripting on Unix, Windows scripting involves integrating a number of components, such as COM or the various mail and database APIs, with the Win32 programming interface. While experienced Windows C++ programmers can find their way through the various objects, most people need some guidance, and this book is it. It addresses all the basic technologies for common integration tasks on Windows, explaining both the Windows issues and the Python code you need to glue things together. Topics covered: Python programming quick-start, Windows Python basics, Python support for COM/DCOM, the Pythonwin editor, Office 2000 scripting, Windows NT administration and system programming, Python MFC programming, and Active Scripting.

phpdoc (Enzyme)
posted byeriesinMiscellaneous
phpdoc is a program that aims to do for PHP developers what Javadoc does for java developers. It is a script that parses PHP class definitions, extracting function and variable names, as well as comments, and dumping this data into a database. The script itself is built in Perl, but PHP is used for search and display. Search is powered by SearchForms, display by EnzymeTemplates, both of which are part of the Enzyme open-source project.
phpdoc is very similar to Gareth Watts' PHPXref.

Pre-cache Images
posted bydannyginSlide Shows
The purpose of this script is twofold: To show the perceived performance enhancements of pre-cached images, and To show how to script continually rotating images. When this page loads, it automatically pre-caches four images that are immediately available in the right-hand pane. The idea here is that as long as the visitor is waiting for a page to load, all the images may as well be downloaded up front, allowing for instantaneous image access thereafter. Activating the checkbox turns on a function that continually cycles through all pre-cached images at five-second intervals.

Self Submitting Pages
posted bystevenatorinForm Processing
A very important coding method to understand when developing ASP pages is the page that submits to itself. This technique is very powerful and can drastically reduce the number of files you have to maintain and the number of places in which you need to make changes when maintaining code. The concept is simple. Using forms, set the action value to the URL of the page in which the form resides. Then use ASP code to determine what the current state of the page, and present the proper output to the user.
